About Me

lutruwita/trowunna is my home.

I come from a line of strong, passionate women; I am a proud palawa woman. Storytelling is in my blood; the stories of my ancestors, stories of Country and stories of the saltwater. My Grandma lovingly taught us the truths of the creation stories and tales of our family, her words painting the pictures of the journeys we all carry in our hearts. I continue this through sharing the stories of others.

I have always loved to tell stories.

When I was little my stories were big and outrageous, but I believed in them. Since then, I’ve become the vessel to amplify other voices, no matter how big and outrageous. Film making is simply an extension of traditional storytelling.

To connect with someone’s journey to share their story is powerful and precious.

It’s my calling to tell stories of people; to acknowledge and document the faces, the truths, the lives and the loves.

I tell stories, but also give a voice to those who have the right to share theirs.

My filmmaking is emerging.

In 2017 I completed Certificate IV in Screen and Media at Rosny College. During this time, I partnered with Bookend Trust, and travelled to Fiji to produce a documentary on renewable energy education for remote Fijian communities. I also produced a series of 2 minute films about volunteers with the 26Ten Program for the Linc Library Tasmania.

In 2019, I gained a traineeship at ABC Hobart in Operations, working on camera, editing and sound. I also worked at Blue Rocket Productions as their Indigenous Screen Attachment for Season 2 of Big J and Little Cuz. Through this attachment, I attended the Australian International Documentary Conference as an Indigenous filmmaker, supported by Screen Tasmania.

In late 2020, the drive to tell others stories and create lasting works culminated with new and propelling connections. 2021 gave me chance and opportunity, and so, Blak Cockatoo Films was born.
